Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine
Otago University offers occupational medicine through its distance learning programme to New Zealand and Australia based students; such students are advised to take the Diploma in Industrial Health offered by the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine. Otago University also intends to offer general occupational medicine distance taught education to international students. This course is to be offered jointly with another University and not through to the Otago distance learning programme.

The qualification is based on four papers, including the two papers for the Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Medicine, AVMX 715 – Principles of Occupational Medicine and AVMX 716 – Clinical Aspects of Occupational Medicine, and two advanced papers AVMX 723 – Managing Occupational Medicine and AVMX 724 – Health and Industry.
This course is a two year part time distance taught course and will provide all the core competencies in occupational medicine required for Fellowship training programmes. Papers for the Diploma are offered in a two yearly cycle and enrolment can start at any point during the course. Two papers for the Diploma offered in any one academic and calendar year in order to make up the 40 points required.
